The Director has indicated an age range for actors wishing to audition for these parts.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE ARTEMIS PAYERS\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(Main parts)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HETTY OAKS |\u00a0<\/strong>The leader of the troupe and lead female in the play. Strong, brave, from an upper-middle class background, a born leader but not snobbish. No-nonsense but has a kind heart. Is hiding a secret.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Anywhere from mid-to-late thirties to early forties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>FLORA PELMET |\u00a0<\/strong>Co-founder of the troupe. \u00a0Similar background to Hetty although could be played as someone slightly older. Is well-educated and quite self-effacing and Apologetic. A good \u2018foil\u2019 for Hetty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>No specific age in mind but older rather than younger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HELEN IRVING |\u00a0<\/strong>Alcoholic, children\u2019s radio presenter and frustrated actress. Mother to Rosalind, whom she bullies unmercifully.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Forties or older.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ROSALIND ROBERTS |\u00a0<\/strong>New RADA graduate and Helen\u2019s daughter. Well educated, keen, bullied by her mother but wants to assert herself. Latterly Charlotte\u2019s Girlfriend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Late twenties \u2013 early thirties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CHARLOTTE (CHARLIE) PETERS |\u00a0<\/strong>Cockney \u2018tomboy\u2019, latterly Rosalind\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Late twenties \u2013 early thirties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>JOCELYN THRIPP |\u00a0<\/strong>Becomes stage manager but also takes part in the plays. A \u2018Women\u2019s Institute\u2019 type. Similar background to Hetty and Flora.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>No specific age in mind but older rather than younger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>IVY WILLIAMS |\u00a0<\/strong>Young woman of mixed-race origin, originally from Birmingham (is written as having strong Birmingham accent.) Becomes Joseph\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Early\/mid-twenties \u2013 early thirties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>REGGIE PELMET |\u00a0<\/strong>Flora Pelmet\u2019s cousin. A warm and friendly, man. Avuncular, supportive, humorous.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>No specific age in mind. Needs to be believable as Flora\u2019s cousin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>GERTRUDE ROSENBAUM |\u00a0<\/strong>A German Jewish refugee (needs to cope with German words\/accent). Mother to Joseph.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Age range:\u00a0<\/strong>Forties through to early fifties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>JOSEPH ROSENBAUM |\u00a0<\/strong>Young German Jewish refugee &#8211; Gertrude\u2019s son (needs to be able to cope with German words\/accent).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Other characters \u2013 depending on how many people want parts, these could be allocated separately or other cast members could double-up \u2013 these are fairly small parts.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>IN THE WARDROBE STORE\u00a0<em>(may only be voice-over)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">LADY<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">MAN<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE MINISTRY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">LEONARD \u2013 Is a slightly larger part and he appears in the first part of the play.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">MAUREEN<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>AUDITIONEES <em>(for the Artemis players \u2013 all small cameo parts but quite funny)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">SHARON<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">ELSIE<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">HENRIETTA<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">WILLIAM<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>OTHERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">KEITH<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">MAYOR<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">BERT<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<em><strong>We will also need people to provide \u2018assorted voices\u2019 for announcers, newsreaders and an assortment of historical and literary characters.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>___________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>THE PRODUCTION TEAM \u2013 (non-acting roles)<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We also need a very strong production team for this play, so I will be selecting people for these very important roles along with casting the actors.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SET DESIGNER<\/strong> \u2013 Will have responsibility for working with the Director to design and produce the sets for the production.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>PRODUCTION CO-ORDINATOR<\/strong> \u2013 Will have responsibility for co-ordinating all aspects of the production and acting as liaison between all other technical staff, stage management, actors, director and publicity people to ensure smooth running of the production as a whole.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE MANAGER<\/strong> \u2013 Will be responsible for all backstage activity, lead props. co-ordinator, marshalling actors etc. Will also be responsible for co-ordinating set changes and assisting the Director with running the Book during rehearsals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER(S) AND PROPS. CO-ORDINATORS \u2013 <\/strong>Will assist the stage manager in the duties listed above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LIGHTING DESIGNER\/OPERATOR<\/strong> \u2013 Will be responsible for lighting design (with assistance from those with previous experience) and operation during rehearsals and on the nights of the performances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOUND DESIGNER\/OPERATOR <\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Will have responsibility for recording\/procuring necessary sound effects for the production and operating the sound equipment on the nights of the performances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFRESHMENTS CO-ORDINATOR<\/strong> \u2013 Will have responsibility for co-ordinating a group of people to prepare and deliver refreshments in the interval. <em>[<strong>NB. We are always short of volunteers to assist with the refreshments.
