From Little Acorns…

About 70 years ago, the Bramshot Avenue Congregational Church (now the URC) held a concert and the Friendship Club performed a one-act play called Tea-Time Tempest. Later the club put on an evening of its own with two plays, and from these small beginnings, The Alexandra Players were formed.

In the record of productions since 1966, we note that over 100 different plays have been performed. In all that time, only three have been repeated – Blithe Spirit (1975 and 2003), Absurd Person Singular (1979 and 2009) and Play On! (1988 and 2011).

The Alexandra Players aim to bring live theatre of the highest possible quality to the local area, with a mixture of drama and comedy which is sometimes amusing, sometimes frightening, often thought provoking, but always, we hope, entertaining.

In 2013 we were honoured to be selected by the Royal Shakespeare Company to be part of their Open Stages Programme, the UK’s biggest amateur theatre project.
